Fairfax Lumber now puts true meaning into the words “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” by accepting donations of salvaged and recycled building materials for resale.  You can find old doors, barely used sinks, architectural details, light fixtures, furniture and much more.  Normally these items would be tossed into landfills, but they have also found a way to sell the salvaged materials side by side with new materials.

Old doors and doorknobs ready for use!

Their efforts at green building won them the 2007 Independent Pro Dealer of the Year Award from Home Channel News, a national trade magazine, the 2009 Small Business of the Year presented by the California State Senate, district 3 and the 2009 Sustainable North Bay Award as presented by the California State Assembly.  It may be that Fairfax Lumber is the only business selling new and used building materials side by side, along with green building products.
